Our Priest

On behalf of the worshipping community, I welcome you warmly to the website for St Peter’s Anglican Church, East Maitland. As you tour this site you will soon discover that this unique church building is perhaps one of the finest examples of Blacket architecture in Australia.

In Decorated Gothic style, St Peter’s boasts some of the most intricate, and beautifully ornate furnishings and fittings of any church on the Australian mainland. Most notable are the Baptismal Font and the Pulpit both carved from stone, marble, and alabaster.

Scenes from the life of St Peter are depicted in the stained glass windows of the nave, whilst the sanctuary windows capture the birth, death, and resurrection of Christ respectively, inviting the gathered community at prayer to ponder the central tenets of our faith. The building as a whole tells the story of our Christian life.

Our worship of God encourages us along an adventurous journey of faith. As you tour this website I do hope you will be inspired to come and visit us in person, to soak up the rich heritage that is St Peter’s Church, or perhaps, to take a step of faith. You are welcome to join us for worship and to leave your prayers in this place of peace. You will find here a community that is open and welcoming.

Although principally a space where Anglican Christians gather in communion, this beautiful and richly historic building, plays host to several public events during the course of the year. We regard this as an important outreach to the wider community and therefore it is a privilege to offer hospitality to a variety of groups whenever possible.

In different ways St Peter’s Church continues its work of enjoying, celebrating and sharing God’s love.

Please pray for us as we become the people God would have us be. Blessings to you and your family in Christ’s name.

The Reverend Michael Davies
